Two years on from the quakes and we no longer have a city skyline with tall buildings. Much of the CBD is gone and much of it is still closed. The open roads change daily but some roads have been repaired close to the city, the buses are running a lot better and there are more places to eat and some new places opening but it is a slow recovery.
Places to visit include The Antarctic centre, Darkroom Bar @The Archive for live, usually free music, local beers, wine and cocktails plus some really great bar snacks- worth visiting just to try the home-made mini pizza or pie of the week. The Botanic Gardens and Museum are open now too and you can walk around the Arts Centre and get a reasonable look at the changed city too. The Re-Start Project is great and well worth a visit.
Wish! is an intimate family styled Bed and Breakfast offering modern accommodation close to the city centre of Christchurch.
Wish! is ideal for singles, couples, small groups or small families.
We will do all that we can to help you enjoy your stay and all that Christchurch has to offer.
Wish! was designed and built in 2007/08 on the site of our original town-house. Making the most of a long and challenging site, we have designed a family home close to the inner city that is eco-friendly and has achieved all council requirements without resource consent.
The aim being to ensure that the home is warm, sun filled and family friendly whilst giving neighbours on both sides more sun than they have received for the nearly 100 years that the previous house stood.
During the building of WISH! we worked closely with our builder to be environmentally friendly and to reduce waste. Now that WISH! is open as a B and B we have continued the environmental focus and use mostly eco-friendly cleaning products, line-dry washing and do all that we can to be environmentally friendly. The organic vegetable garden supplies us with greens, berries and lots of other yummy treats all year round.
Wish! won a 2008 South Island Master builders Gold Award for our builders- Ruben Homes. At the national judging Wish! won Ruben Homes a Gold Reserve Award and mention was made of the great use of a small site and how light and warm our home is.
